Make a 24 hour kit from an old vest with extra pockets added. The weight will be evenly distributed and you can zip on your life saving kit and walk away! A vest with pockets(fishing vests work well) can serve for a kit, especially for kids. Fill it with water, food, light, heat, sleeping blanket or bag, first aid and one pair of layered underthings. Don’t forget to keep your sturdy shoes, xtra set of keys and charged phone near your bed.
A person should have a go bag, a 24 hour kit and a suitcase or duffle filled with clothes, meds, supplies that are enough to last one week. Ideally this will be a back pack or some other mean of getting your supplies out quickly.
